The symbol of the Archangel is a symbol found within 3 monotheistic religions namely, Judaism, Christianity and Islamism. Archangel means "beginning" and "commandment". The Archangels, superior to the angels, constitute the second Celestial level behind the Principalities.

During the Viking Age, at the end of the eighth and the beginning of the ninth century, Scandinavians began to make contact with Christianity through Christian missionaries. Becoming all Christians, the form of Christianity adopted was first Roman Catholicism and finally adopted Lutheran Protestantism, a concept corresponding better to the Scandinavian tradition which wanted the king to also be the spiritual leader.
