The Goddess of the Dead

In Norse mythology, Hel or Hela is the sister of the wolf Fenrir and the serpent Jormungand. She is the fruit of the union of the god Loki and the giantess Angrboda. She is a warrior goddess who rules over the world of the dead in Helheim. According to legends, his body would be separated into two parts, one symbolizing life and the other death. As queen of the realm of the dead, Hel's function is to accompany the souls of the dead who have lost their lives outside of combat. She leads them to their ship so that they can follow the currents of one of the twelve rivers present, the Élivágar. One of these twelve rivers leads to the land of Gimlé where good and virtuous people live.
