Yggdrasil, the World Tree

Within Scandinavian mythology, the World Tree Yggdrasil is represented as a huge ash tree with three roots connecting the worlds of Asgard, Midgard and Niflheim. Each of these roots would come from a sacred and magical place. One of them comes from the source of Hvergelmir protected by the dragon Nidhogg. the second root comes from the fountain of Mimir guarded by a giant. Finally, the third root comes from the well of Urd which is guarded to him by three goddesses named the three Norns.
