Aegir, also called Gymir, is a giant in Norse mythology. He is a friend of the Ases and represents the ocean and the sea. His name itself means "he who comes from the water". Aegir has nine daughters, all representing an element of the ocean (the waves, the swell, the raging sea,...). This wooden statuette honors the sea, which for a very long time nourished our Nordic ancestors.
