The mightiest of hammers

Mjolnir or Mjöllnir, is the name of the most powerful weapon in Norse mythology. It is a hammer with the ability to control lightning, shrink or always return to its owner's hand. It was created by the dwarves Brokk and Eitri when Loki, brother of Odin, bet his head that they could not forge such precious objects as Sif's new hair, the Skidbladnir boat or Odin's spear, Gunnir.

The Ases, at the sight of the hammer, decided that it was the most fabulous object to protect themselves from enemies. Loki therefore lost his bet. Thanks to this hammer, Thor was able during Ragnarök to defeat the Midgard serpent, Jörmungand, but lost his life following its bite. On the death of their father, the sons of Thor Modi and Magni recovered his famous hammer Mjöllnir.
