The Wolf of the End of the World
Several wolves exist within Norse mythology. On one side we have the wolves of the god Odin, Geri and Freki present at his side in his palace in Valhalla. On the other side we have Fenrir and his sons, Hati and Skoll. Fenrir is the son of the god of mischief Loki and the giantess Angrboda. After giving birth to his two sons (the identity of the mother still remains a mystery), Fenrir, growing taller and more and more powerful, was chained by the Aesir for fear that they could no longer control him.
His children, Skoll and Hati tried to protect him but in vain, they were captured in turn and put to use. They had to constantly chase the Sun and the Moon respectively. The day Fenrir was able to free himself from his chains marked the beginning of Ragnarok, the end of the world according to Norse mythology. Fenrir devoured the god Odin and his sons devoured the gods Sol, the personification of the Sun and Mani, the personification of the Moon.
