The legendary origins of Ivar
Ivar the Boneless only appears in the mythos of Ragnar Lothbrok: The 13th Century Icelandic Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok (Old Norse: Saga of Ragnars loðbrókar). It begins with the childhood of Aslaug, who will become Ragnar's second wife and Ivar's mother. She is the daughter of Sigurd and Brynhild (the legendary dragon slayer and Valkyrie of Germanic mythology most popularized by Wagner), who die when she is three years old. Thus, she grew up in Norway welcomed by a poor family who named her Kráka (“raven”) and kept her parentage hidden.
