Who are the Actors of the Vikings Series?

From season 1 to season 6 , the "Vikings" series has conquered more than one. Inspired by real events, the one that aired for almost 8 years shares a part of Scandinavian history and northern culture. You can also find out what the actors of the Vikings series look like in real life .

Vikings: a series over six seasons

The “Vikings” series is an Irish-Canadian television series. Created by Michael Hirst (also screenwriter and producer of some episodes of the series "Camelot"), the series spans 6 seasons and 89 episodes. It first aired in 2013 , ending in December 2020, much to the despair of all fans.

Synopsis of the Vikings series

As the name suggests, the Vikings series is about the lives of Norse warriors. And more particularly on the exploits of a Viking group, masterfully led by the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok . We are at the end of the 8th century. Ragnar is a very young warrior and dreams of adventures. His goal: to explore the West . If his leader, Haraldson, refuses that Ragnar leaves for new conquests, the young Viking intends to go to the end of his desires.

Travis Fimmel as Ragnar Lothbrok

Travis Fimmel Ragnar

Ragnar Lothbrok is without a doubt the most important character in the "Vikings" series . And it's Travis Fimmel , 41-year-old Australian actor, who plays him. The one who also played in "Warcraft" joined the cast of the series in 2013. And his interpretation is immediately noticed. But before embarking on the cinema, Travis Fimmel had a completely different future in mind. As a child, the one who grew up on an Australian farm wanted to become a footballer. But after breaking his leg, he gives up his dream and starts modeling. Travis Fimmel then appeared in Jennifer Lopez's clips , then signed up for Calvin Klein … before paying for acting lessons. In 2003, his acting career finally began, he was then 24 years old .

Katheryn Winnick as Lagertha

Katheryn Winnick Lagertha

Second main character of the “Vikings” series: Lagertha . Wife of Ragnar Lothbrok but also and above all a true Viking warrior , Lagertha truly existed. To embody her character, the director chose Katheryn Winnick . The 43-year-old Canadian already has a lot of baggage when she begins filming “Vikings”. Side series the pretty blonde appears, among others, in "The experts", "Criminal minds", "Doctor House", or even "Bones". On the feature film side, we note his roles in "Love without notice", "Kiss and Kill" as well as "Love and other drugs". But the actress has several hats since, for the sixth and final season of “Vikings”, she entrusts her debut as a director and producer.

Clive Standen as Rollo

Clive Standen Rollo

Born in 1981 in Ireland, Clive Standen also plays in the “Doctor Who”, “Robin Hood” and “Taken” series. His face may therefore not be unfamiliar to you. In the "Vikings" series, the British actor plays the role of Rollo , a formidable Viking chieftain. If he looks could not be more ferocious in the series, between long hair and bushy beard, Clive Standen is much less so in real life. Even if the latter participates in jousting on horseback and sword fights when he can… to each his own!

Alexander Ludwig as Björn Côtes-de-Fer

Alexander Ludwig Bjorn

His face tells you something? So it may be alongside Jennifer Lawrence that you have already seen Alexander Ludwig . Indeed, the Canadian actor won the role of Cato, in 2012, for the film Hunger Games . Two years later, it was in the series "Vikings" that the actor made his appearance, playing the role of Björn Côtes-de-Fer , son of Ragnar . On screen, we see him grow old and mature. His fluffy adolescent beard becomes much fuller, while his abundant hair is abandoned for a much more ferocious (almost) bald head... We reassure you, even if he looks like a Viking in real life, Alexander Ludwig should not not be as scary as in the series!

Alex Hogh Andersen as Ivar the Boneless

Alex Hogh Andersen Ivar

Alex Hogh Andersen is a Danish born in 1994. In the series "Vikings", he plays the role of Ivar the Boneless , brother of Björn and son of Ragnar. The 26-year-old actor learned theater at school and ended up auditioning for film roles. But when he's not in front of the camera, Alex Hogh Andersen is behind. From a very young age, the Danish actor has also devoted himself to photography .

Jessalyn Gilsig as Siggy Haraldson

Jessalyn Gilsig Siggy

Jessalyn Gilsig is a Canadian-American actress born in 1971. Her notoriety jumped between 2009 and 2015 thanks to her role in "Glee", where she plays Terri Schuester. At the same time, from 2013 to 2015, the actress joined the cast of “Vikings” to interpret this time Siggy Haraldson . With her role in "Vikings", she also won the Golden Maple Awards in 2015, as best actress in a television series broadcast in the United States.

Gustaf Skarsgard as Floki

Gustaf Skarsgard Floki

Gustaf Skarsgard is Swedish. In 2013, he joined the cast of "Vikings" to play the role of Floki before joining the cast of the series "Westworld" in 2018. But as good as he is, Gustaf is not the most famous actor in the family. … His father, Stellan Skarsgard plays Bill Turner in “Pirates of the Caribbean” and Dr. Erik Selvig in “Avengers”. His brother plays in "Zoolander", "Big Little lies" and "The legend of Tarzan". He is no less than 1.93m tall and has therefore spent 6 seasons playing Floki in the “Vikings” series. Floki, the crazy man and amazing boat builder.

Eric Johnson as Erik the Red

Eric Johnson Erik the Red

He is Canadian and has (almost) the same first name as the character he plays. In the “Vikings” series, Eric Johnson takes on the role of the famous Erik the Red . Known for his role in the "Smallville" series, but also for his role in the film "Fifty Shades Darker", the Canadian actor took his first steps behind a camera at the age of 15. He then interprets a young version of a man, played by Brad Pitt.

Alyssa Sutherland as Aslaug

Alyssa Sutherland Aslaug

If we see her for the first time in the film "The Devil Wears Prada", Alyssa Sutherland is much better known for her role in the series "Vikings". From 2013 to 2017, the Australian actress played Queen Aslaug. A well-known Norse character, Aslaug is one of Ragnar's consorts , as well as the mother of Ivar, Sigurd, Björn, and Hvitserk. A magnificent woman in mythology, the one who embodies her is just as beautiful in real life. Alyssa Sutherland has indeed been a model. She participates in campaigns for Calvin Klein or Chanel and is on the cover of Vogue.

Peter Franzen as Harald Finehair

Peter Franzen King Harald

Peter Franzen is a Finnish actor born in 1971. Before joining the cast of the "Vikings" series for the role of Harald Finehair , Peter Franzen made appearances in local films, but also in "Maigret".

Linus Roache as King Ecbert

Linus Roache King Ecbert

Linus Roache is best known to the general public for his role as Thomas Wayne in “Batman Begins”. But also for his role in "New York, judicial police" and for his appearance in the series "Homeland". The British actor then embraces the role of King Ecbert in the series “Vikings”. And this the time of 32 episodes, broadcast between 2014 and 2017.

George Blagden as Athelstan

George Blagden Athelstan

At 31, British actor George Blagden has much to be proud of. In addition to a major role in the film adaptation "Les Miserables" and in the series "Versailles", the one who also plays in "Black Mirror" is part of the distribution of the series "Vikings". And it is the monk Athelstan that he brilliantly embodies there. From the first to the fourth season, his character is torn between belief in a god and belief in Vikings .

John Kavanagh as the Seer

John Kavanagh the Seer

You may not have recognized it and we can't blame you. In the "Vikings" series, the role of the Seer is played by John Kavanagh . The eyes hidden by scars, the black mouth, the drooping face and covered by a hood, the Irish actor is unrecognizable. But his filmography does not stop at “Vikings” and the scenes where he gets his hand licked. The greatest moviegoers will have already seen it in the films "Parfum of scandal" or "The invisible woman". Otherwise in the “Maigret”, “The Tudors” or “Titanic” series. In total, nearly 50 years of career since John Kavanagh took his first steps in front of a camera at the age of 15.

Obviously, these thirteen actors and actresses are not the only ones to be part of the cast of the series “Vikings”. There are about thirty main actors, and well over 60 recurring secondary actors. Just that…
