"Die in battle and go to Valhalla". It was sort of one of the mottoes of Viking warriors. Their only wish was to end up in Valhalla, Odin's palace. According to myth, when warriors proudly died in battle, Valkyries descended from the heavens in order to take their souls to Valhalla. By day these souls would fight to prepare for Ragnarok and by night they would participate in Odin's banquet. These warriors were then called the Einherjar.
