The Destrier of the Redoutable

Yggdrasil literally means the “Dreadful Steed”. However, in Norse mythology, the Redoubtable is the nickname of the king of the gods Odin. Some therefore translate Yggdrasil as the “Destrier of the god Odin”. It is represented in the form of an immense and powerful ash tree connecting the nine realms of the universe. It is said that in order to acquire knowledge of the Runes, Odin hung from the branches of Yggdrasil for nine days and nine nights facing the raging elements of nature.
